Building Information
First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton covers the entire block bordered by Jefferson (south), Carlton (west), Madison (north), and Ellis (east).
The church vision that guides our building use is We will welcome everyone as we would welcome Christ Himself. The Building Use Policy adopted by our Session encourages utilizing and sharing our facilities while maintaining responsible stewardship of our valuable assets. Church and church-related meetings, functions, and activities obviously have higher priority in requests for space, but outside groups can request space up to three months in advance. Details relating to facility scheduling and event planning for church activities as well as a information about our building use policy and fees for space for non-church events are online.
The building is open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and during Church Office hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., except on holidays. The building is locked the rest of the time except when meetings and activities are scheduled, and there are also locks on the doors of the offices and classrooms, along with the Ministry Center and balcony. Please use special care to make sure to schedule any planned building usage with Janet Rynne, our Administrative Assistant, to ensure the building and room will be open and available to you. We are working to be as accessible as possible while also being safe and secure.
The Church Office is locked after regular business hours. Ministry teams can pick up mail and leave information for each other using the large gray mail box unit located in the Parish House entry closet just outside the library. There is also a mail slot on the Parish House front door for mail and for members who want to leave mail-sized information during off hours. The Parish House door is the large entrance located on Carlton. We call this the Parish House because it had been the home of David and Caroline Dunbar and their family. First Presbyterian Church had purchased the home and the property from Mrs. Dunbar in 1950. (See Church History.)
