Construction Update - September 12, 1999
Work has begun in earnest on the building addition,
with Ragnar Benson Inc. as the general contractor.
Where the Manse once stood
is now a hole in the ground. The
lawn at the east side of the Sanctuary
has been excavated
in preparation for the parking lot and the Stewart Hall
addition. A construction fence
is being erected to provide a "hard hat" area for the
work to proceed safely. Three trailers
have been installed on the front lawn of the Parish
House for Sunday School use.
A groundbreaking dedication was held on Startup Sunday,
September 12th, as part of Presfest99.

A groundbreaking dedication was held at 2:00 p.m. on Startup Sunday, September 12th,
1999, as part of the Presfest99 picnic.
After an untimely rain shower forced everyone into
the Sanctuary, the dedication began with introductions
by Gerry Goris, followed by Kate explaining to the children
why the building campaign has been undertaken and Doug
leading the congregation in a dedication prayer.
Wheaton Mayor James Carr, a First Presbyterian member,
congratulated the Building Committee on their efforts,
and Sharon Urban sang "Gloria."
Afterwards, the Presfest99 picnic remained indoors
to avoid the rain which continued for most of the afternoon--but
"a great time was had by all," and the rain
was badly needed.

construction project as well as the graphic of the Celebration
Garden and additional information about it are online,
no longer as church goals, but now part of our church
