How you can
be...
|
|
1. Special gift or interest
You enjoy spending time with a senior citizen, but you also want to build a long-term relationship with that person. You are interested in being matched with a senior who you will visit regularly to provide companionship and relief from the pain of loneliness and isolation.
2. Couple of free hours a week
Once you have completed the application process and training, you will be matched with a senior who lives in the south Carol Stream neighborhood and has signed up for the program. You will have a chance to get to know each other and learn about the senior's interests. As the relationship grows, your weekly visit might include playing cards, going shopping or having lunch together.
3. Family/small group
Your family or small group can also support this relationship by helping to make the senior's birthday and other holidays special or they may want to help when we have events or get-togethers for all the seniors and visitors in the program.
4. Special skills
Patience and willingness to listen to your senior is the greatest gift you can bring to the Friendly Visiting Program. Compassion and desire to serve the Lord by reaching out to someone who others have forgotten are the only special skills we request.
5. Other opportunities
Being a Friendly Visitor is just one of the opportunities offered by the Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream. Other opportunities include being on the Friendly Visitor Steering Committee or serving as a volunteer driver for the program.
