Northern Illinois Food Bank is the link between the national food manufacturers and local food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc., that serve the hungry directly. The Food Bank acquires, gathers, handles, and then distributes the food through over 293 agency partners in 12 northern Illinois counties. In this service area over 285,000 people are considered by the government to be "food-insecure", that is, lacking enough food for three meals a day, thirty days a month, not to mention proper nutritional balance. NIFB is an affiliate of America's Second Harvest - the nationwide network of Food Banks and Food-Rescue organizations. NIFB was founded in May 1983 and provided 7,000 pounds of food to the hungry in its first month. In the past year it has distributed over 10 million pounds of food - and that is not enough. For further information, see our web site at www.northernilfoodbank.org . The Food Bank is located at 600 Industrial Drive, St. Charles, IL 60174.
