Christmas Sharing - December 2009

Thanks to the many people who volunteered to help and who made donations, we were able to serve about 170 families during Christmas Sharing 2009.  Volunteers worked from December 7 through December 12, transforming our Ministry Center and assisting the guests who were invited to come and select food, clothing, and gifts for loved ones on December 11-12.

This year we also had a group of refugees come through from World Relief that made the experience even that more multi-cultural.  Food and items that were left over were brought to a downtown ministry in Chicago that helped many mothers there who are in need of a "lifting of the countenance."

Gary United Methodist Church members began this program for seven needy families nearly 40 years ago.  With the addition of other churches and the input of Wheaton/Warrenville School District 200 and the township offices, the entire program now serves over 600 families.  Our mission is to provide a Christian connection to these needy families while we help clothe and feed them.

Our thanks to Bob Stevens for the photos and Jay Moses for the information!
