Ordination of Patricia Locke -
March 21, 2010

Program

A large group was on hand in the Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton to celebrate the Ordination of Patricia H. Locke to the Ministry of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church USA on Sunday afternoon, March 21, 2010.

Pat Locke, a long-time active member of First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, who worked as a professional writer until August 2005, had gone back to school as an adult at McCormick Theological Seminary in 2004, earning her M.Div in 2007.  On February 1, 2010, Pat joined the staff of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, Michigan, as their new Associate Pastor.

Bible readings were done by two of Pat's classmates at McCormick Theological Seminary, Nancy Dolan (in green), an Elder at the Presbyterian Church in Barrington, and Jeanne Hale (in pink), an Elder at Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church and Associate Chaplain and CPE Supervisory Candidate at Montgomery Place Retirement Community.  The sermon, "An Extravagant Relationship," was presented by Rev. Jennifer Burns Lewis, Pat's friend and former field studies supervisor and Pastor, Head of Staff, Presbyterian Church of Western Springs.
Pat's friend, Rev. H. Daniel Lewis, Presbytery of Chicago, Planned Giving Officer, American Cancer Society, reaffirmed the baptismal covenant.

Dr. Douglas Brouwer, former Pastor/Head of Staff, First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, currently Pastor/Head of Staff, First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, had been scheduled to give a message at Pat's ordination.  Due to weather-related problems, he had spent many hours at the Ft. Lauderdale airport but never arrived in IL.  Dr. Jay Moses, above on the left, presented Doug's message.  He stated he had been selected based on his "long working relationship with Doug - eight days."  Jay did a great job.

On the right above and in the photos below, Ashley Locke and Benjamin Locke then presented the symbols of ministry to Pat Locke.

Plenty of food and people ready to congratulate Pat were on hand at the reception held for Pat following the service.  In addition, the church's photo-filled centennial book, First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 1909 - 2009, Celebrating Our Past - Believing in Our Future, written and designed by Patricia H. Locke and Tad Mallery, was first available the day of Pat's ordination, creating another cause for celebration!

Our thanks to Bob Stevens for the photos!
