VBS 2007 was such a fun and meaningful week. The scripture for each day was shared in our opening "homeroom" time with leaders who stayed with the children throughout the morning as they went to different areas. We had a Bible story team that shared lessons each day; and the children learned about the importance of thankfulness, forgiveness, friendship, and sharing. These lessons were reinforced during the game time - as they all had lots of fun together. During our craft
time the children enjoyed awesome activities planned by the craft
team to help them learn about God's amazing world: handprinted
t-shirts, birdhouses, bug houses, flower pots, and individually
designed prayer journals all helped them internalize that God's
creation is a gift to be loved. Our
science team planned activities to help them learn that God is
to be trusted, to look for God's messages, and that God is "our
fuel," as
in fuel that can launch a rocket. During the mission
time children shared a snack together and decorated parachutes
to send to children in Mexicali, Mexico, an Indian reservation
in Montana, our sister chuch in Chicago, Canto De Esperanza,
and also one to share with the Presbyterian Camp at Saugutuck,
Michigan. They also were very generous with donations to
our local food pantry. We all gathered in the sanctuary
at the end of each day to sing (and dance!) and to summarize
our daily Bible lesson by Pastor Jay who "popped" out of a box
each day.
