Denny Lawson grilling

From April 14 through May 5, 2010, a Faithbuilders Program was held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evenings.  This intergenerational faith enrichment program included a dinner featuring Denny Lawson and his grill at 6:00 p.m., a devotional time of music and singing in the sanctuary at 6:45 p.m., and classes and activities from 7:00 - 7:45 p.m.  Children in grades 2 - 5 enjoyed sports activities organized by Sports Ministries Inc. held in the Ministry Center; and babysitting was available for younger children.  A women's book study, led by Lynne Danekas, discussed An Alter in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor each week.

April 14:  Technology and the Church
Dr. Paul Kirbas discussed the reasons and decisions that are being considered by church leaders concerning the incorporation of technology into our programs, facilities, and worship experiences.

April 21:  Guest speaker Mark Braverman
Mark Braverman is a Jewish author who has offered writings and speeches around the country on the themes of justice in the Holy Land.  His new book, The Fatal Embrace, addresses the need for Christians to come to terms with the past and move toward a more constructive future.  Mark discussed his book and his work.

 

April 28:  Guest speaker Marion Blumenthal Lazan
Marion Blumenthal Lazan is a survivor of the Holocaust and has shared her inspirational story through her book, Four Perfect Pebbles, and her talks.  As our special guest this evening Marion will shared the lessons her experience should teach us and our children about our current day and our current world.  Her website, http://www.fourperfectpebbles.com, provides additional information about Marion Blumenthal Lazan and her book.  Photos from this evening are online.

May 5: The Sanctity of Nature: A New Institute in the Making
Pastor Paul Kirbas has recently been awarded several grants to lead a project that brings together scientists and theologians from around the globe to explore some common themes on the subject of nature's care and use.  In this final Faith Builders program Pastor Paul shared the details of this project and the exciting plans for its future.
