Blessing of the Animals - October 4, 2008

It was a sunny although chilly morning on Saturday, October 4, 2008, for our second annual Blessing of the Animals service. This could have been one of the reasons that all of the furry family members in attendance were dogs (no cats or guinea pigs this year). All were on their best behavior, even respecting the request to avoid using our new Centennial Tree, which was to be dedicated the next day.

| The worship service was held on the Feast of St. Francis Day, when the church celebrates the life of St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th century Christian who took up a life of private devotion while living alone in nature, discovering that the creatures around us are God's gifts which should be cherished and nurtured. The service included three hymns, prayers, and a Litany of Thanksgiving for our pets. |
