Catch the Spirit Sunday - September 9, 2007

Catch the Spirit was the theme of our Homecoming Sunday on September 9, 2007.  This is the Sunday we celebrate the beginning of our new fall programs, return to our three-worship-schedule format, and begin Sunday School classes for children and Pathways adult education classes for adults each fall.

We then topped off the celebration with a picnic including games for the children, fellowship for the adults, plenty of food, and music provided by our Westminster Fellowship (WF) Band.

Catch the Spirit

Our worship service at 7:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary was in the Heritage style, including the hymns "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus" and "O Jesus, I Have Promised" sung by the congregation accompanied by David Lincoln on the organ.

Additional information about our church worship styles can be found on the Worship Schedule page of the website.

Paul
Scribe
The reading of the scripture lesson, Philippians 1:12-26, was done as a drama by members of our Shepherd Company.  Doug Zimmer, as the Apostle Paul, who was in jail, dictated this portion of the letter to the Philippians to the scribe, played by Patrick Stremel.
Singing
Listening to the message presented by Dr. Paul Kirbas
We stood to sing another hymn, "O Jesus, I Have Promised," and then sat down to listen to the message "Living FOR the Lord," presented by Dr. Paul Kirbas.

We then stood for the blessing from Dr. Paul Kirbas.
As they do at the 8:40 a.m. service each week, John Herndon (on the right) ran the soundboard during the service while Bill Wetteroth (on the left)  recorded the service on CD for our church library and shut ins and to enable the sermon to be added to our website and podcast.

Since Catch the Spirit Sunday fell on the second Sunday of the month, our 11:00 a.m. worship service was a Celebration Service held in our Ministry Center.  The scripture reading and the sermon are the same as at the earlier services, but the words to the songs are projected on screens at the front and the back rather than printed in bulletins or in a hymnal.

Our band, 2 or More, led the singing of songs including "You Are Worthy Of My Praise," "You Are My King," and "How Can I Keep From Singing?"  The singers were Sharon Urban, Donna Beering, Nancy Goodwin, and Doug Boyd.
