| Reception
and Farewell for
Douglas Brouwer and Family
May 30, 2004
Dr. Douglas J. Brouwer preached his final sermon
at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton on Pentecost
Sunday, May 30, 2004. After the three services
and the congregational meeting that followed the
11:00 service officially dissolving our pastoral
relationship with Doug, a reception was held for
Doug and his family in Stewart Hall to thank them
for their service to our congregation and community.
Despite our own feelings of sadness, loss, and grief, we celebrate
the good memories and achievements of Doug's 13 years with us.
He has given his talents and gifts extravagantly to the life of
this church, and we have been blessed. Now God has called him
to be a blessing in another place. We join together in an expression
of grateful thanks to Doug, Susan, Sarah, and Elizabeth. We are
also glad to note that the First
Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor does post text versions of
sermons on their website. Read
Doug's letter of April 20, 2004, to the members and friends of
First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.
Doug will begin as the new pastor/head of staff
of First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan,
on August 1, 2004.

Agnes Kenton, Clerk of Session, read a resolution, proposed
by the session,
commending Doug in numerous and detailed ways. The congregation
voted
and unanimously approved the full resolution. Agnes
then presented Doug
with a copy of the resolution of affirmation. The
resolution can be viewed online.

As a congregation we thanked Doug Brouwer, his wife,
Susan DeYoung, and their
daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Brouwer, for their 13
years of service to our
congregation and to the community.

We all lined up in Stewart Hall and down the hallway
from the rotunda
to greet Doug and his family.

Our thanks to Bob Stevens and Debby Lawson
for the photos!
