A RESOLUTION
OF SESSION
WHEREAS,
the Reverend Douglas J. Brouwer has served as
a dedicated and faithful ordained minister of
the Presbyterian Church (USA) at the First Presbyterian
Church in Wheaton since August 1991; and
WHEREAS,
he has preached the Word with eloquence and
conviction, and taught the faith with scholarship
and insight; and
WHEREAS,
he has guided us, in a time of great change,
always honoring the heritage of our denomination
and helping us discern God's plan for His world;
and
WHEREAS,
he has led us to an unprecedented expansion
of our physical endowment and our membership,
with hospitality rather than pride as our motivation;
and
WHEREAS,
he has been an enabler of expanded ministry
to all ages, remembering the wisdom and faith
of our mothers and fathers, and building the
hope and faith of our youth; and
WHEREAS,
he has reached out to the world beyond our doors,
caring for the destitute, speaking courageously
for the accused and oppressed, and working for
reconciliation and peace; and
WHEREAS,
he has challenged us to worship authentically
and creatively, insisting on theological rigor
and on an openness to the wonder of God; and
WHEREAS,
this church is profoundly grateful to him for
this strategic leadership and faithful ministry;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED,
that the Session of the First Presbyterian Church
in Wheaton, Illinois, acting on behalf of the
whole congregation, declares herewith heartfelt
gratitude to the Reverend Douglas J. Brouwer
for his leadership and ministry among us; and
be it further
RESOLVED,
that we offer deepest thanks and praise to God
for Pastor Brouwer's time with us and service
to us; and he it further
RESOLVED,
that blessings and hope-filled glad wishes are
conveyed to Pastor Brouwer for his future, wherever
God may lead, with the hope that others may
know him, as we shall always remember him, as
a friend of Jesus Christ.
