Dr. Paul J. Kirbas, PhD.

Dr. Paul J. Kirbas

At the end of March 2007, Dr. Paul J. Kirbas, Pastor/Head of Staff of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, IL, received a PhD. Degree in Theological Studies and Biotechnology from the Graduate Theological Foundation, a consortium of universities with offices in South Bend, Indiana.

Dr. Kirbas attended his residency classes at Oxford University. His PhD studies and dissertation have been under the direction of Oxford professor Dr. John Kerr, who studied under the tutorage of the science-theology pioneer Dr. Arthur Peacocke and later succeeded Dr. Peacocke as the Warden of Ordained Scientists.

As a major component of his degree program, Dr. Kirbas wrote a thesis entitled Navigating through a Stipulated Freedom, in which he developed a theological and ethical compass to evaluate the moral implications of biotechnical subjects such as stem cell research, prenatal engineering, and artificial intelligence. A publication contract has been offered for the book version of his thesis, which will be out in print by mid summer. Dr. Kirbas is scheduled to do his first lecture and book signing on August 5, 2007, at the Ocean City Tabernacle on the New Jersey Shore. Other book signing events are currently being scheduled in Florida.

Dr. Kirbas will be offering several classes and lectures at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton throughout the year. Interested persons are invited to check the church’s news and adult education pages for the schedule of these classes.
