On Thanksgiving, November 28, 2002, First Presbyterian members hosted Navy recruits from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. This was the seventh year that the Mission Outreach Committee of our church sponsored the Navy Thanksgiving Project. About 80 sailors were brought by bus to First Presbyterian Church on Thanksgiving morning, where they shared a brief service and met their host families. Families each hosted two Navy recruits, sharing a day of Thanksgiving food, football, and family traditions with them before bringing them back to the church to board a bus for the trip back to the Center.
