Pentecost – May 23, 2010

Our 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. worship services on Pentecost, May 23, 2010, were enhanced with special music provided by our Westminster Choir, the Humble Singers men's choir, our Celebration Ringers, musicians, and liturgical dancing.

Many of the participants in the services as well as the worshippers wore red, the color of Pentecost, which symbolizes the flames of the Holy Spirit.  Our worship bulletins were also printed in red.  Our new deacons were ordained and installed during the 8:40 a.m. service, and the ordination and installation of our new elders was during the 11:00 a.m. service.

Following the 11:00 a.m. worship service we dedicated our new Sanctuary Garden.

Celebration Ringers
Our prelude, "On This Day Earth Shall Ring," was played by our Celebration Ringers, accompanied by a tambourine, finger cymbals, and a djemba, and was directed by David Lincoln.
Celebration Ringers

Processional
The Processional, "Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones," sung by the congregation and the Westminster Choir, included a liturgical dance by Hilary Van Oss.

Humble Singers
Our Humble Singers men's choir sang "Festival Gloria."

Hope for Resolution
The song "Hope for Resolution" was sung by our Westminster Choir.  This song is of a European chant melody and an anti-apartheid song from South Africa and is a celebration of diversity.  The arrangement reflects our respect for divergent musical styles and points us towards our innate (though sometimes neglected) potential for peaceful coexistence.

Come Holy Spirit
Sam Richey was the soloist for our song of preparation, "Come, Holy Spirit."

We Are Called
Our sending song was the stirring hymn, "We Are Called," so appropriate for Pentecost, sung by the choir and congregation.
We Are Called

Our talented musicians included Donna Beering, tambourine; Steven Beering, finger cymbals; David Watschke, djemba; David Beering and David Geddes, trumpets; Paul Burgess, organ and piano; Denny Lawson, saxophone; Elizabeth Aalbue, Betsy Edwards, and Ellen Maloney, violin; Nathan Goodwin, cello; Susannah Lauber, string bass; Nancy Cinatl and Barb Pearson, clarinet; Bill Walter, electric bass guitar; and David Lincoln, organ and piano.

Our thanks to Denny Lawson for the photos!
