Red Carpet Trip to Springfield - April 21, 2007
 |
Red Carpet Rolled Out at Lincoln
Sites
With a full bus, a nice breakfast box, and yearning to learn
more about a favorite son of Illinois forty-five First Presbyterian
Church members and friends jaunted south across the Illinois
prairie to the state capitol of Springfield on Saturday, April
21, 2007, as part of the Red Carpet Fellowship Trips program. |
|
The group enjoyed the marvelous spring weather, and some did
a walking tour of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. We
then did a brief bus tour of Springfield.
|
We then went on to the Lincolns' Tomb at Oak Ridge
Cemetery in Springfield. This
cemetery is the most visited cemetery in the United States, after
Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The entire Lincoln family
is buried in the tomb, except their eldest son Robert Todd Lincoln,
who is buried at Arlington. |
We then headed back home, stopping for pizza along the
way, and enjoyed a heated contest of Lincoln Trivia and lore. Many
fabulous prizes from the Museum Shoppe were awarded. |
