Kirkin' o' the Tartans
Highland Dancing
February 7, 2010
|
Our third annual Kirkin' o' the Tartans worship services at 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. were a celebration of the Scottish heritage of the Presbyterian Church through a wonderful service of bagpipes and drums, tartans, beadles, Scottish liturgy, and traditions of the old Scottish Kirk.
Few classes were held during our usual education hour between the 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. services on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Instead there was a time of Scottish Fellowship in the Ministry Center, including refreshments and entertainment provided by the Thistle & Heather Highland Dancers of Chicagoland.

| A good crowd was on hand to enjoy the dancing of these talented children. The performers ranged in age from age 6 to age 14, directed and taught by Nancy Strolle. They compete successfully at the local, national, and international level as well as perform around the metropolitan area. |

After watching the experienced dancers, members of First Presbyterian Church were then invited to join the dancers. Quite a few of the children decided to try Scottish dancing. Nancy Strolle explained some of the steps, and the experienced dancers demonstrated them for the new dancers.

| Although the new Scottish dancers from First Presbyterian Church would need a little more practice before they could do demonstrations around the area or enter competitions, they did very well. Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed the celebration of the Scottish heritage of the Presbyterian church. |
