Kirkin' o' the Tartans Services

We celebrated the Scottish heritage of the Presbyterian Church in the colorful and moving Kirkin' o' the Tartans worship services at 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011. These services included bagpipes and drums, tartans, a beadle, Scottish liturgy, and traditions of the old Scottish Kirk.

| Peter Wilkie, on the left above,was our Beadle, the person whose primary duty was to guard and protect the Bible of the church, or kirk. Other participants in the service included our Covenanter Guards, Torch Bearers, and the Bearer of the Processional Cross. Many of the church members participated in the Procession of Tartans. |

| Few classes were held during our usual education hour between the 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. services on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Our Deacons served coffee and lemonade in the hall downstairs; and everyone enjoyed a time of Scottish Fellowship in the Ministry Center with entertainment provided by the Thistle & Heather Highland Dancers of Chicagoland, joined by some of the children from First Presbyterian who were taught some beginning steps of Scottish dancing. |
