SHINE Returns This Spring!

The SHINE program was started in the summer of 2007 as a Sunday School Opportunity during our Summer Education Programs.  Strive High in New Experiences is a new music program for children from second to fifth grade.  This program offers an opportunity for children to strive in music and gives them an opportunity to learn more about the talent that God has given them.  The class offered this spring is for 2nd - 5th graders and is led by David Lincoln.

Practices are on Wednesdays from 5:00 - 5:50 p.m. from April 9 through May 28, with the children providing worship leadership on Sunday, June 1, 2008.  Children are still welcome to join.

Just click on the link to register your child online:  Register for SHINE

Some of the highlights of the program:

  • solo and ensemble singing
  • solo and ensemble instrumental playing
  • ensemble percussion playing
  • basic music theory

Please call David Lincoln at 630-668-5147 (ext. 22) if you have any questions about the program.  You can also view photos from the worship service on July 15, 2007, showing last summer's SHINE participants.

LOGOS

LOGOS,
our mid-week ministry for young people in Kindergarten through 8th grade, began October 3 and concluded with our banquet on March 12, 2008.  It will begin again in the fall.  Meetings are on Wednesday evenings from 4:45 - 7:30 p.m. from fall through spring each year. The goal of the ministry is to nurture a relationship with Jesus Christ and Christian relationships with peers and adult leaders. This is accomplished through a four-part program that includes Bible Study, Worship Skills, Recreation, and a family-style dinner. The program requires a commitment from each participating family to support the ministry financially and with their time and talents. For more information please call Shelley Iliff at 630-668-5147 x14 or .

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN PRESHOOL has been serving the community since 1967.  Preschool is often a child's first school experience and sets the stage for future years of formal education. First Presbyterian Preschool provides a safe, caring, Christian environment that stimulates the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children.  Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is open to church members and returning families beginning November 1 and is open to the public beginning January 1.  Contact Carol Rooney (3 Year Old Program) or Chandra Gravit (4 Year Old Program) at 630-668-5147 ext. 27 to request an application or to set up a classroom visit.

FIRST PRES PRESCHOOL ANNOUNCES A NEW PROGRAM, the Terrific Twos. WORSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR PRESCHOOL CHILDREN - In addition to providing childcare for our preschool children during worship, we are now offering an additional option for parents who would like to share worship with their young children.  At the 8:40 a.m. worship service each week, during the sermon when the children in kindergarten - grade 2 leave with Shelley Iliff, the pre-kindergarten children leave with Jennifer Boba and Beth Bauer for their own program in the chapel.  They talk about the worship service and things we do in worship, helping to make it more meaningful for the children. They also teach Bible stories and songs.  Jennifer Boba is coordinating this new ministry, and she welcomes your ideas and your assistance.  If you would be willing to help on occasional Sunday mornings, please contact Jennifer by phone at 630-510-3938 or by email at jenniferboba@sbcglobal.net.
