Marketo Griffin - Coordinator of Contemporary Worship

Marketo Griffin

Marketo answered the Lord’s call into music and ministry over five years ago while working as a civilian air traffic controller on a remote airfield in the Kuwait desert.  She left her career behind and entered Wheaton College just over a year later as a composition major on the violin.  God gifted her musically in many unexpected ways, and her focus changed to conducting and singing.  She graduated from Wheaton last spring with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance.

Marketo is musically eclectic, enjoying a wide variety of sacred music.  She finds great joy in using her talents and experiences to compel and then lead others in knowing and worshipping God in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Marketo was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but has lived in over seven states and three countries, so she has learned to be “at home” wherever she is.  She served in the United States Air Force for six years and was an air traffic controller for a total of eight years before beginning her music career.  In addition to her work at First Pres, Marketo teaches private voice and appears as a guest soloist at various events in the area.  She also directs an a cappella ensemble that specializes in the early music of the African-American Church, with an emphasis on spirituals and hymns.
