Children's Ministry

Children are a very important part of the life of First Presbyterian Church.  Shelley Iliff is our Children's Ministry Coordinator.  She can be contacted by or by phone at 630-668-5147 ext. 14.

CHILDCARE INFORMATION:  We offer childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschool children during all of our worship services.  We ask that parents remain in the building when children are in childcare.  During the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship services childcare for infants and toddlers is in Room LL103 and for preschoolers in Room LL101.  Our childcare staff is composed of adults and teens who are church members who love children.  During the Sunday education time from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. childcare is available in Room LL103 for children under age 2.  Children age 2 through high school are invited to attend Sunday School, while adults attend Pathways classes from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.

WORSHIP FOR CHILDREN:  Because we all "learn by doing" and we believe that worship is so important, we want our children to be in worship with their families.  Just prior to the sermon children in kindergarten through grade 2 are invited to go with Mrs. Shelley Iliff, our Children's Ministry Coordinator, for "Proclaiming God's Word," which is age appropriate.  This includes Bible stories and other stories to help the children learn about following the teachings of Jesus.  Sometimes the focus is on our worship together in the Sanctuary.  We pray together and sometimes sing together.  The children return to their families in the Sanctuary after the sermon.

FAMILY ROOM:  Space is available for parents with infants and small children during worship in Sanctuary Hall (under the sanctuary).  A TV monitor will display the worship service so you can care for your child and still participate in worship.  This room is open for all Sunday morning services that are held in the Sanctuary.  Children are also welcome in the Sanctuary.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES are held from September through mid May during our Sunday education time from 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.  Thanks be to God that we have caring adults who want to share the faith with our young people and that we have so many eager to learn!  We invite the prayers of the entire church family for the teachers and the learners.

LOGOS is our mid-week ministry for grades K-8 that meets on Wednesday evenings October through March.  Everyone participates in a four-part ministry including Bible study, “Giving to God” (which includes worship and service), dinner, and a time for recreation.  We meet from 5:00 - 7:15 p.m., and we will begin with Middle School in the Ministry Center and grades K-5 in the Sanctuary.  Registration meetings are held in September.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN PRESCHOOL, the first preschool in Wheaton, has been serving this church and the community since 1967.  Preschool is often a child's first school experience and sets the stage for future years of formal education.  First Presbyterian Preschool provides a safe, caring, Christian environment that stimulates the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children.   If you would like more information about our programs for 2, 3, or 4 year olds or our new pre-kindergarten program, please contact Chandra Gravit, First Pres Preschool Director, at 630-668-5147 x 27.

Additional activities for the children at First Presbyterian Church include Vacation Bible School each summer, the Easter Egg Hunt and Craft Party in the spring, and our Children-led Christmas Eve service.
